Alexis E. Rovzar
Alexis E. Rovzar “TITO”, passed away Saturday morning, January 7, 2012, at age 60 in his home in Mexico City surrounded by his family. He was born in Mexico City July 23th, 1951, and was the eldest of four siblings of parents Alexis Eugene Rovzar and Maria Elena de la Torre. He was married to the wonderful Marcela Orvañanos de Rovzar who is still with us as well as their four amazing children Marcela Rovzar de Gonzalez, Monica Rovzar de Saad, Mariana Rovzar de Garcia, and Alexis Rovzar Orvañanos. He is also survived by three magnificent sons-in-law, Carlos Gonzalez, Omar Saad, and Jaime Garcia, as well as six beautiful grandchildren, Natalia Gonzalez Rovzar, Diego Gonzalez Rovzar, Carla Gonzalez Rovzar, Andres Saad Rovzar, Ana Saad Rovzar, Pia Garcia Rovzar, and one additional on its way. Alexis will be remembered for his kindness and nobility, always helping others achieve their personal, spiritual, and professional goals. He was loved by so many people whose lives have been eternally changed for the better thanks to Alexis’ example of life, love, friendship, and honesty. Alexis was a partner in the Latin America Practice of White & Case, serving as the founding partner in charge of the Mexico City office from 1995-2005. He championed pro bono activity throughout the firm and played a key role in developing a culture of pro bono in Mexico and Latin America. Alexis sat on the board of directors of a number of multinational firms such as: Fomento Económico Mexicano (FEMSA), Coca-Cola Femsa (KOF), Canada's Scotiabank, Grupo Bimbo, Grupo COMEX, Compañia Occidental Mexicana (COMSA), Grupo ACIR, Appleseed, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Qualitas of Life Foundation, Procura, the Board of International Overseers of Tufts University, NFL Mexico, Patronato del Instituto Nacional de Pediatría (The National Children’s Hospital Institute), Momentum Real Estate Partners, and was a former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Center on Philanthropy of Indiana University in Indianapolis. A service was held on Monday January 10, 2012 in Mexico City where part of his ashes rest. A ceremony is planned in New York on February 25th, 2012. Alexis was a man of uncommon grace, full of charm and warmth, he was smart, ever caring, and thoughtful, always committed to improving the lives of everyone around him. He will greatly be missed by his family and his many friends and admirers.
