Mission

Qualitas of Life Foundation is an organization that aims to provide Mexican and Hispanic immigrant families in New York with direct access to the required resources to have a better quality of life.

Objectives

Develop a financial literacy program tailored to the needs and characteristics of the Mexican and Hispanic community in Metropolitan New York
Develop strategic alliances that facilitate access to financial services for the graduates of the Qualitas' financial literacy program
Involve the Mexican and Hispanic community in the development of the immigrant community

Become a self-sustainable organization

Background

Qualitas of Life Foundation began as an initiative of Marcela O. de Rovzar, a Mexican philanthropist with an extensive career in capacity building and fundraising. When Mrs. Rovzar moved to New York City in 2004, she was startled by the critical living conditions of the large Mexican immigrant community in the area. After consultations with individuals familiar with the situation, Mrs. Rovzar, and a distinguished group of professionals with a demonstrated commitment to social responsibility, decided to create a nonprofit organization that would facilitate immigrants' access to financial literacy programs and financial services.

Why are we different?

We specialize in financial literacy for Mexican and Hispanic immigrants
We offer a financial literacy program that incorporates community building and local development
We bring together diverse groups of Mexicans and Hispanics in support of the immigrant community
We develop strategic alliances with financial institutions and community- based organizations

Strategic alliances

The depth and breadth of our connections and community affiliations are very important to Qualitas.

Presently, we are members of the New York City Financial Justice for Immigrants Network and the US-Mexico Chamber of Commerce Northeast Chapter. We are in close contact with financial institutions in Mexico and the U.S. such as Scotiabank, Banco Santander, Banco Azteca and BBVA-Bancomer. Qualitas has also received a generous donation of educational materials from Banamex (Citigroup) that will be distributed to the participants of the program.

Our allies also include community-based organizations such as Little Sisters of the Assumption in East Harlem, Adelante Alliance in Brooklyn, HANDS and Mercy Center in South Bronx, and El Centro and the Jewish Community Center in Staten Island. We work closely with non-profit organizations such as the Mexican Educational Foundation of New York, Acción New York, the Neighborhood Economic Development Advocacy Project and the Appleseed Network.

The firm White & Case provides pro bono legal services to the organization and offers space to hold meetings. Media outlets in Mexico and New York have also confirmed their support to Qualitas by covering our events.
